Counting My Blessings

An exercise in positivity.

The first day of counting my blessings.

One of the great challenges in communication of any kind is to focus on the positive aspects of life. I once heard Judith Malina from the Living Theater talking about how they tried to make two films-- one showing what they thought of as evil, and the other showing their idea of good. The challenge was that there was no way to make good interesting.

It´s very easy to focus on depression, or on the things that stress me out. I focus on what stresses me out nearly every spare minute that I have. The challenge is to find the things that make me happy-- amuse me or enrich me or give me joy-- all the little things that make me feel good. This is my first experiment with livejournal, and as such I´d like to try to use it to relate the things that I´m thankful for during the day.

How do I keep this from being insipid? Can someone else´s bright moments be meaningful?

Well, we´ll see.

amuse

NYTimes story about a nine-year-old boy who keeps stealing vehicles on his street (including a school bus) for a joy ride. A great line from the article:

"Chief Adams said the boy had managed to drive the bus with some skill, maneuvering through narrow streets that school buses normally do not try to travel."

Poor family and funny despite it probably not being funny up close. Too easy to make a free spirit into a pathology. Tho I suppose sometimes it is.

moments

Making myself running just a little bit longer today. Warm air in my lungs.

Cat on my lap until he bites and I throw him off.

Taste of hot salsa, cuts through apathy.
