I actually only have two. This is because I actually try to do my resolutions each year, so make an effort to keep them achievable. We've got a lot of stuff on our plate this year that isn't resolution-oriented but is instead "to do"-- organize our wedding, move into the new house. That doesn't leave me too much room over for resolutions, really.
So, my resolutions:
- 12 Rejection Letters-- after an embarrassing ten year hiatus from even trying to get published, I set myself a goal to collect rejection letters this year. (Note-- of course I'll take acceptance letters as well, but I'm aware of the realities of the market.) 12 rejection letters amounts to one submission per month, which I should be able to commit to doing. (I'm up to 2 so far in 2009, so pretty much on track.)
- 20-30 minutes of exercise, 5 days a week. I have managed to do this so far this year using the entirely humiliating method of exercise DVDs. The goal is health more than weight loss. If you want a testimonial, I have more energy than I have had in *years* after doing this for just a month and a half. I may not be able to see the difference (nor or ever) but I sure as shooting feel the difference already.
So there you go. 2009.

By the way, I haven't mentioned this in a year or so and I have a reasonable number of new readers now. I keep an opt-in introspection filter in order to protect the unwary and unwilling. I'm erratic at posting in it, but it's where I'm keeping track of the rejection letters, where I think about self-improvement, writing and dead babies. Consider this a moment to opt in if you'd like, or opt out if you're sick of it. My feelings won't be hurt either way. Remember the motto of my lj-- this is more for me than it is for you!
I'm screening responses to this post, so you can let me know your preferences in privacy. I'll unscreen comments that relate to the resolutions and not the filter.
