I didn't take these. These are taken from a website which keeps track of the progress of new buildings in Amsterdam. These were presumably taken by someone who works on site. What's neat for me is that they focused on what will be our apartment and the view that we're going to have. And they did it from the side that we can't normally see.

Our apartment circled in blue. This side faces soutwest, so most of our direct sunlight will come through these windows. Since we're the highest apartment, we won't be blocked by the other side of the building. We enter through the fifth floor.

That facing is all wood, which I did not realize that they were going to do. I'm a bit worried about maintenance for that.

I like this picture because it shows clearly the height of the ceilings and the slant of the roof in our upper floor. On the fifth floor, the ceilings will be 3 meters. On the sixth, they'll start at 2.45 meters facing northwest and then climb to 4 meters on the south side.

That's Silodam that you can see in the background.

This will be our view, shot from inside either our apartment or our neighbor's. That's why he focused on the progress of our apartments, because he thought that our view will be amazing. And so it shall be, I think.

Some newer buildings in Portland are getting that wood front too. I wonder what the idea is, if it's supposed to be 'green'.

I hope not. Would be depressing, if true.

environmental design is depressing?

And by fake I mean green-looking, rather than actually functionally improving on energy and resource efficiency.

What if the only only purpose was to increase the market for farm-raised wood?
I have to think boards hold warmth and respond to weather differently than a steely front would.

possible, I suppose. But then it wouldn't be fake.

(I have to say that having dealt now long enough with this particular builder/architect combination, I kinda doubt it. But--hey-- stranger things happen.)

Ooh, what a fabulous view!

Isn't it? That's why we bought the place, really.

And that's why we were willing to wait three years for it to be delivered. :)

Woo hoo! One step closer. Hope the wood is somehow easier than normal wood

Me too. But definitely one step closer.
