I tried yesterday to listen to an interview featuring the Puppini sisters, and when they played some of their music I finally decided that I had to admit something in public. I loathe A Capella music.

I know that I owe deep apologies to a couple of you out there for this. I know that I listened to it in college. But I can't listen to it now. Never. Not at all. Can't bear it, stand it, or tolerate it. Bleah. It's too self-consciously cute and bright. All that finger snappin' goodness and those coy renditions of modern songs. I don't know how I ever listened to it.

Tim & Alan, so sorry. Just had to get this off my chest.

Me, too! It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. The only way I'll stand it is The Beach Boys circa 1963 or 1950s and earlier Doo Wop.

Hokey, yes. Musically questionable, certainly. But those Bryn Mawr women sure loved hearing Alan's version of "Violent Love", my sole attempt at arranging, that came from your Dr. Feelgood LP. :) And at least for me, I never listen to it, but it was hella fun singing the shit. Tim

I think that's why I feel so guilty about hating it now, because I surely loved it then. Maybe it was because people who I knew and liked were singing it. :)

I think you are spot on with that assessment. It was all about the atmosphere. Plus, the S-chords of our era were a motley crew: scruffy, irreverent and blissfully indifferent to how geeky we were. Kinda like the 2004 Red Sox.

I don't listen to the Grateful Dead today, either. Gave all my bootlegs away in 1990. But back in the day, different story.
